How to protect the foot rest on counter height kitchen chairs?
We've just purchased a kitchen set that is counter height and sitting in the chairs requires our feet to be resting on the bottom rail. Over time this will cause a lot of wear. What kind of product could I put on the bottom rail to protect it. I was thinking that someone should make a clear plastic piece of some sort that could snap over the top of the 3/4"X2" wood rail. I might be able to improvise using a 1" piece of clear tubing that is use with aquariums or something like that, but just looking for ideas.

It sounds like you got it figured out. But.....What I would do is build a foot rest on the bar your chairs are used for.
Crib rail protectors for teething . It's rubber and you can cut it to size with a utility knife.

Something like this, but you can buy it at other places like target as well.
